It is becoming a tradition for the Edison Middle School to participate in the Purdue Jazz Festival. This festival has become one of the more prestigious in the Midwest area. This was the 17th annual Purdue Jazz and it continues to grow in size and stature. The festival draws well known professionals such as "The Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band", Dave Samuels and Claudio Roditi as well as committed educators. The competition is stiff with a number of top notch bands competing.

The specific awards earned by the Edison Middle School Jazz 1 band, their description and how the awards are given out is described in more detail in the link above. You may want to read about it as the Edison Middle School Jazz Band 1 took the Honors Band award for their venue and Tanner Goslin took home the Outstanding Soloist award. Central High School had three big bands and three combos compete in various venues with tremendous success as well. Congratulations to the bands, Mr. Lehman of Edison and Mr. Currey of Central.

The IMEA (Illinois Music Education Association) District 3 has auditions each year for participation in the IMEA District band. Each year, we have students who audition in the Band and the Jazz category. Some students will audition in both. The talent of the students again shows with the number of students that are placed on either the District Band or the District Jazz Ensemble I, and some students get placed on both. Congratulations to all the students who auditioned.
